Delta Health System Brings New Heart Test To Mississippi
News
Delta Health System is excited to offer a new tool to help people with heart problems. It is called the CoroFlow CV System. This new technology helps doctors learn more about how blood moves through the heart and find problems that may not show up on regular heart tests.
This test can help people who still have chest pain even after a heart catheterization (heart cath) shows no major blockages. Sometimes the problem is in the smaller blood vessels of the heart. The CoroFlow CV System helps doctors find these hidden problems so patients can get the right treatment.
Kiyo Holmes, Chief Nursing Officer, said, "Delta Health System is committed to bringing the latest technology to our community. This new test can help patients who have been looking for answers about their heart health. Regular checkups can help find health problems early. This new technology gives our heart care team more information so we can better care for our patients."
Heart disease is one of the leading causes of death for both men and women. Women often have heart symptoms that are harder to find. Many women have chest pain even when their larger heart arteries look normal. This can happen when there is a problem in the smaller blood vessels of the heart.
"If you still have chest pain after a heart cath, this test may help find the cause. Sometimes the problem is not in the large arteries but in the smaller blood vessels. Women often have these types of problems more than men, so this test can be especially helpful,” explained Dr. Kenneth Hahn, Cardiologist.
Scott Lloyd, Director of Cardiology, used a simple example. "Think of your heart's blood vessels like a tree. The large arteries are like the trunk, and the small blood vessels are like the branches. Even if the trunk looks healthy, there can still be problems in the branches. This can cause chest pain. The CoroFlow CV System helps doctors look at the smaller branches to find out what is wrong."
Along with Dr. Hahn, cardiologist Dr. John Herzog is using this procedure to bring better heart care to people in the Mississippi Delta region.
Delta Health System is currently the only healthcare provider in Mississippi offering this test. If you have chest pain and still do not have answers after a heart cath, talk with your healthcare provider. You may be able to receive this test through a referral.
Regular checkups and heart screenings are important because they can help find problems early when treatment works best.
