When a person suffers from an illness, injury, or disability that prevents their ability to leave home for health care services, The Medical Center’s Home Care Services can provide the special care they need right at home. The goal of Home Care Services is to provide patients with the knowledge and tools they need to eventually function independently. Home Care also reduces overall health care costs by helping to shorten the length of hospital stays.

The Medical Center Home Health serves patients in Washington, Bolivar, Sunflower, Sharkey, and Issaquena counties. It provides skilled nursing, physical therapy, AB, speech therapy, social services, and dietary consultation, as well as personal care services.

Skilled Nursing Care

Registered nurses survey the patient’s care needs for a wide range of medical diagnoses and establish a plan of care under the direction of the patient physician.

Skilled nursing services offered include:

  • Infusion/Antibiotic Therapy
  • Diabetic Education
  • Wound Care Services
  • TPN/External Feedings
  • Ostomy Care

Physical Therapy

Licensed physical therapists assist patients with neurological and orthopedic disabilities due to stroke, arthritis, fractures, joint replacements, or weakness with a decline in functional mobility skills.

Physical therapy services offered include:

  • Range of motion and strength training
  • Transfer and gait training
  • Balance and coordination activities
  • Equipment Modification
  • Home Safety

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapists provide instruction and training to assist functionally limited patients to better perform activities of daily living such as eating, bathing, grooming, and toileting.

Speech Therapy

Certified Speech Therapists assist patients who have experienced a communication or swallowing deficit, to gain greater independence and improved quality of life.

Certified Nursing Assistants

These dedicated caregivers assist patients who are unable to meet their own personal hygiene needs with personal care services such as grooming, bathing, light meal preparation, and light housekeeping in the patient’s immediate area.

Medical Social Services

Professional counselors assist patients with financial needs and links them with available community resources.

Dietary Consultation

Dietary consultation is available when needed to assist patients with special dietary needs.

Private Pay Qualifications for Home Health Services:

  • The patient requires services or nursing, physical therapy, and/or speech therapy
  • The patient is homebound (required by Medicare, Medicaid, and most insurance companies)
  • The patient lives in the service area (Washington, Bolivar, Sunflower, Sharkey, and Issaquena counties)
  • The patient is under the care of a physician
