Delta Health System, Elected Leaders Celebrates Northwest Regional’s Commitment To The Community And Successful Collaborations

The Delta Health System Board of Trustees and Leadership Team held a Welcome Celebration and Staff Appreciation event at Delta Health System-Northwest Regional in Clarksdale, MS on Thursday, April 29, 2021. The Honorable Bennie Thompson, U.S. Representative for the 2nd District, was the Keynote Speaker and special guest.

“How sweet it is”, said Rep. Thompson in reference to the collaborative efforts by Delta Health System, the Washington County Board of Supervisors, and the Coahoma County Board of Supervisors. “When the Delta works together, we can be better. We can grow and prosper. That is what today represents, and I commend those who found a way to secure the future of healthcare for this community.”

Congressman Thompson also spoke on the importance of COVID-19 vaccine delivery and complimented the efforts of the Delta Health System Mobile Unit to get vaccines to our most rural communities.

Scott Christensen, Delta Health System Chief Executive Officer, talked about the importance of healthcare stability in the Delta Region. “The mission of Delta Health System is to provide excellent patient experiences and remove the uncertainty that the Clarksdale and Coahoma County residents have been experiencing for years. This community and hospital staff can trust that we will be here providing quality healthcare and stability,” said Christensen. “Northwest Regional is the community’s hospital and is vital to the economic success of the area.”

Aurelia Jones-Taylor, Aaron E. Henry Community Health Services Center, Inc. Chief Executive Officer, announced that the Aaron E. Henry Center and Meharry Medical College Residency Program have aligned and will be working with Delta Health System to train physician residents at Northwest Regional. She emphasized the magnitude of this partnership in shaping a strong and positive healthcare future by addressing the physician shortage in our region.

Other guest speakers included Sam Newsom, Delta Health System Chairman of the Board, who welcomed guest and other guest and opened with prayer.

Clarksdale’s Mayor Chuck Espy, who emphasized the importance of positive partnerships and how having dependable healthcare drives economic development opportunities; and Sate Representative Orlando Paden commended the ability of all leaders to sit down and map out a path that benefited the community first.

Following the program, hospital employees and guests dined on a delicious BBQ lunch catered by Owens Burger Shack while enjoying the music of local blues musician Lucious Spiller.
