Delta Regional Healthcare Foundation Enhances Patient Comfort and Care

The Delta Regional Healthcare Foundation has announced a major contribution to Delta Health System–The Medical Center with the purchase of fifteen new Geri Chairs for patient care departments throughout the hospital.

The new Geri Chairs will significantly improve patient comfort, mobility, and safety, especially for patients requiring extended recovery or observation periods. Designed to enhance both the physical and emotional well-being of patients, these chairs provide greater flexibility for positioning, reducing the risk of pressure injuries, and promoting healing through improved circulation and comfort.

“This is exactly the type of patient-centered impact we envisioned when we reestablished the Foundation,” said Iris Stacker, Chief Executive Officer at Delta Health System. “Our hospital teams work hard every day to provide the best care possible, and with support from the Delta Regional Healthcare Foundation, we’re now able to enhance that care with tools that directly benefit our patients’ experience and recovery.”

The Foundation, which was relaunched in 2024 under the new name Delta Regional Healthcare Foundation, was formerly known as the Tri-State Healthcare Foundation. Originally established in 2009, it had been dormant following various leadership changes. The Delta Health System Board of Trustees, as part of a broader strategic plan, revitalized the Foundation to strengthen the hospital’s sustainability and growth.

Operating as a 501(c)(3) organization, the Foundation focuses on capital needs, infrastructure, and education and workforce development within the hospital system. Its goal is to ensure that essential equipment and patient care advancements can continue to improve healthcare delivery in the Mississippi Delta.

“The healthcare climate in rural Mississippi has been extremely challenging for years,” Stacker added. “Our team has shown remarkable resilience in guiding the organization through many transitions, but for our hospital to grow and bring innovative technology, infrastructure, services, and education to the community, we need funding to do so. The Foundation provides the leverage and partnership opportunities to make that happen.”

Brother Sandifer, Chairman of the Delta Health System Board of Trustees, emphasized that the Foundation will serve as both a resource for sustainability and a meaningful way for the

community to give back. “This Foundation allows donors to support the hospital that may have once cared for a loved one, welcomed a new family member, or provided employment,” said Sandifer. “Every contribution, large or small, plays a part in continuing that legacy of care.”

“Delta Health System is vital to the healthcare community and serves as an economic driver for Greenville, Washington County, and the Delta,” said Stacker. “Our vision continues to be able to provide our residents with sustainable, quality healthcare for generations to come.

The Foundation’s purchase of the 15 Geri Chairs marks one of many initiatives aimed at improving patient care and sustaining the hospital’s mission of providing excellent healthcare right here in the Delta.
